High-quality sushi by a Japanese chef in Sheung Wan

After eating too much chain sushi, sometimes I want to enjoy high-quality sushi, so I came to this Sushi Masa in Sheung Wan. The shop is run by a Japanese sushi chef, the sashimi ingredients are fresh, and the slices are large and thick.
Special Sushi Platter $580
We ordered the special sushi platter, which includes 11 different kinds of sushi, plus a tender thick tamago and 6 pieces of green onion tuna belly rolls. As the name suggests, the sushi ingredients are premium fresh sashimi, such as fatty tuna belly, medium fatty tuna belly, amberjack belly, and salmon belly—several rich and oily belly cuts. There are also firmer-textured deep-sea tilefish and sea bream, fragrant charcoal-grilled eel, thick scallops, fresh and creamy sea urchin, and flavorful bursting salmon roe. The most impressive is definitely the vinegared mackerel, with a little ginger and scallion on top; surprisingly, it has none of the usual fishy smell of mackerel.
Grilled White Eel $98
Besides sushi, we also ordered grilled white eel. The skin side is grilled to a crisp, while the flesh side is very tender. Eating it with salt, wasabi, or lemon juice brings out different flavors.
Fried Oysters $128
The shop is currently offering a limited-time oyster dish, so we ordered fried oysters. The oysters are juicy and sweet, with a crispy panko crust that is very tasty. Four fried oysters come with three kinds of sauces (teriyaki sauce, salad dressing, and matcha salt) for dipping.
