Fishing Old Man stands tall on the Clear Water Bay Peninsula, its sharp peak soaring into the clouds, and is acclaimed as one of the "Three Sharp Peaks of Sai Kung." There are two explanations for its name: one says it refers to the nearby Temple Mound, which is arch-shaped and, when viewed from the side, resembles the long beak and body of a kingfisher (also known as Fishing Old Man); the other is that the peak looks like a fisherman wearing a straw raincoat and hat, hence the name "Fishing Old Man." There are small trails on the northwest and southwest slopes of Fishing Old Man that lead straight to the summit, and a separate hiking trail built on the mountainside. You can either climb the peak or enjoy a leisurely hike, depending on your preference and ability.
🗓️ Itinerary:
Ng Fai Tin — Sheung Yeung Shan — Temple Mound — Fishing Old Man — Tai Au Mun Road
Duration: 3 hr
Length: 5.5 km
Itinerary
The route starts at Ng Fai Tin, following the hiking trail and quickly leaving the busy road behind. The path gently ascends, overlooking Acacia Bay below. After walking a bit further, watch for a warning sign on the left, where you leave the Fishing Old Man hiking trail to ascend. After climbing the hillside, the sharp peak of Fishing Old Man becomes clearly visible. Descend slightly into a small valley, then climb again to the summit. Afterwards, descend a slightly rocky slope on the other side and soon reconnect with the hiking trail. Continue left on the trail for a short distance, then a path leads down to Tai Au Mun Road (or continue straight on the hiking trail). From Tai Au Mun Road, you can reach the Clear Water Bay bus terminus directly.
