Travel Through Time! Discover the Beauty of Hong Kong's Intangible Cultural Heritage at Sam Tung Uk Museum

Hidden in Tsuen Wan, the Sam Tung Uk Museum is packed with treasures! Originally a Hakka walled village over 200 years old, it has now transformed into a repository of intangible cultural heritage, with every brick and tile telling a story of old Hong Kong~

As soon as you enter, you’ll be amazed by the blue brick walls and granite courtyard, a typical "three houses and two corridors" architectural layout that recreates the Hakka community style🏠 The exhibition halls are filled with traditional farming tools, embroidered bridal gowns, and handmade pottery tools. The most exciting part is the interactive installation—put on the headphones and you can hear the village elders recounting past times, their Cantonese voices blending with echoes of the era, instantly immersing you in the experience!

The intangible heritage experience area is super fun to explore! Regular Hakka mountain song workshops are held, where grandmas play the moon lute and teach traditional tunes, with lyrics full of wisdom from fishing and farming life; there are also hands-on Hakka tea cake making classes, where glutinous rice flour wraps peanut and sesame fillings, filling the whole museum with a fragrant aroma when steamed~ The most photogenic spot is the "Qilin Dance" prop display in the center of the courtyard, with the golden-red Qilin head shining brightly. Nearby, a video loops scenes of the Qilin dance during festivals, so lively you can almost hear the drums🥁

Just a 15-minute walk from Tsuen Wan MTR Station Exit A2, admission is free and you can enjoy the air conditioning~ This place is not just a museum but a living window into Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage. A visit here lets you truly understand the wisdom of Hakka life~
