Sai Kung, often called the “Back Garden of Hong Kong,” is a must-visit for nature lovers—famous for its scenic hikes, island views, and fresh seafood. We visited during the summer rainy season, when the weather can be unpredictable. The plan was to hike through the trails and checkpoints for those postcard-worthy views.
But nature had other ideas—black rain poured nonstop ⛈️. We tried to wait it out under a hut for shelter, but the heavy downpour just wouldn’t stop. With slippery trails and safety in mind, we decided to end the hike early, take the bus down, and return to the city. While disappointing, it reminded us that sometimes flexibility is part of traveling.
💡 Traveler Tips for Sai Kung:
▪️ Best season: October to April (cooler & drier). Avoid peak summer for safer hikes.
▪️ Always check the weather forecast before going.
▪️ Pack light but bring rain gear & waterproof covers.
▪️ If rain ruins your hike, enjoy Sai Kung’s seafood restaurants & cafés instead.
▪️ Safety first—avoid trails during black rain or typhoon signals.
Even on rainy days, Sai Kung has its charm—teaching us that the journey is just as important as the destination.
