Looking for a place in Central that combines history with a chill vibe? Tai Kwun should definitely be on your list! Formerly the Central Police Station compound, Victoria Prison, and the former Central Magistracy, this site retains its century-old colonial architectural style. The red brick walls and arched doorways exude charm, making every photo look like a masterpiece.
It's not just about the stunning architecture here. Tai Kwun also features art exhibitions, unique restaurants, and an open-air plaza. When you're tired from walking, you can sit down with a cup of coffee and enjoy the blend of old colonial buildings and modern design. The juxtaposition of the solemnity of the former disciplinary forces and the vibrancy of today's creative culture is truly special!
Getting there is easy:
- MTR: Take the MTR to "Central Station" and exit via D1 or D2. Walk along Queen's Road Central for about 10 minutes until you reach Arbuthnot Road.
- Bus/Tram: Take a bus to the "Central Market" stop or a tram to the "Pedder Street" stop. From there, it's a 5-minute walk.
If you're heading to Central for a weekend stroll, make sure to drop by Tai Kwun. Not only can you snap some great photos, but you can also experience the blend of Hong Kong's past and present!
