A date with the Pacific Ocean in Hualien, a perfect time for sea breeze, fishing and whale watching

When I come to Hualien, my favorite place to go is towards the Pacific Ocean. Take a stroll along the coastline during the Dragon Boat Festival. Whether it is the pebble beach of Qixingtan or the viewing platform of Beibin Park, you will see a vast expanse of blue and the gentle sea breeze, as if you are being gently embraced by nature.

In the early morning, you can see locals fishing on the shore, quietly guarding their fishing lines and their own moment of peace. And in the summer, you can’t miss the whale watching trip departing from Hualien Port! If you are lucky, you may see groups of dolphins jumping out of the water, which makes people exclaim in amazement. The thrill of that moment is still unforgettable.

In the afternoon, you may want to find a cafe by the sea, order an iced latte, and watch the waves crashing against the shore, letting the days pass by at a leisurely pace. The sea in Hualien is not just a scenery, it is a good friend that helps me slow down and heal my soul.
