On the east coast of Fengbin, Hualien, there’s a place with a simple name—Shitiping. If you must choose one spot to stop along the East Coast, it has to be Shitiping. I didn’t have high expectations initially, but when I saw the blue sea and white rocky shores with my own eyes, I could only say one word: "Wow."
The unreal blue of the sea, the snow-white rocks, and the endless sky. Standing there, you’ll feel the world suddenly becomes vast, and your worries shrink to insignificance.
Shitiping is a marine terrace formed by sea erosion, featuring a unique terrain. The white monoclinal mountain resembles the surface of the moon, while one side plunges into the deep blue sea. Nature has sculpted this place into a masterpiece. Walking along the trail, with rocks underfoot and the sea ahead, you’ll want to stop and take photos at every step.
If you’re willing to explore further, you can descend to the lower platforms and feel the refreshing splash of seawater at your feet. From certain angles, you can even spot small fishing boats drifting in the distance, like scenes straight out of a postcard. This isn’t a bustling tourist hotspot, but the tranquility here is incredibly soothing.
Sunlight reflecting off the white rocks can be a bit dazzling, but it makes for exceptionally clean and elegant photos. If you love natural, unfiltered landscapes, this is the perfect spot for photography!
Right next to Shitiping is Shiti Fishing Harbor, just a five-minute drive away. If you’re craving fresh seafood, this is the place to go. The fresh shrimp and delicious clams are highly praised. Whether it’s street food or seafood restaurants, each has its own charm and is worth a visit.
📍 Location: Shitiping, Gangkou Village, Fengbin Township, Hualien County
🕰 Recommended Visit Duration: 1.5–2 hours
🚗 Transportation: Driving or riding a scooter is recommended. The coastal highway leads directly to the site, and parking is available.
🍙 Nearby Supplies: There are few shops on-site, so it’s recommended to buy water and snacks in Yuli or Fengbin, or dine at Shiti Fishing Harbor.
🩴 Tips:
- The rocks can be slippery, so wear non-slip shoes for safety.
- The summer sun is strong, so don’t forget a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
- There’s little shelter, so it’s not recommended to visit on rainy days.
