Imagine walking along a trail perched on a cliff face, nestled against the Pacific Ocean. The vast blue waters beneath your feet, the sound of waves crashing against the rocks echoing in your ears. This isn't a movie scene, but the "Qin Wu Zhi Zi" (Family Unaware of Child) Sea Trail in Fengbin Township, Hualien. This beautiful and somewhat thrilling trail was originally a section of the old Provincial Highway 11. Due to its steep terrain, legend has it that a woman carrying a child passed through this trail. She was so focused on the path she walked that she didn't notice she had separated from her child. When she looked back, the child had already wandered far away, and she had wandered too far to reunite. Hence the path's sad yet romantic name: "Qin Wu Zhi Zi." The trail, approximately 190 meters long, is short, yet every step is filled with surprises. Constructed of transparent tempered glass and a steel frame, the trail offers the thrill of walking through the air while offering unobstructed views of the clear waters and steep cliffs below. Walking along the trail, you can admire the breathtaking coastline from various perspectives, occasionally witnessing waves crashing against the grotesque rocks, creating a hazy spectacle of white foam. The trail ends at a viewing platform where you can relax, enjoy the sea breeze, and gaze out at the boundless Pacific Ocean. The Qinzhizhizi Sea Trail is more than just a scenic coastal path; it's a journey that blends nature, history, and culture. Next time you're in Hualien, consider adding this trail to your itinerary and experience this azure Pacific adventure for yourself.
