If it's your first time visiting Huizhou for autumn viewing, 2-3 days is enough to head straight to Yixian County in southern Anhui, where the most classic autumn scenery of Huizhou is hidden.

If you want to see the kind of autumn with a stronger cultural feel like the drying autumn crops, you can go to Chengkan in Shexian County or Huangling in Wuyuan. The Yixian route mainly focuses on mountain and countryside autumn scenery (primary) + ancient village residences (secondary), which is more suitable for nature lovers. Whether driving on the road or strolling around the village, it really feels like being in a painting.

🚗 3-Day Itinerary Reference:

DAY 1️⃣ Huangshan North Station/Yixian East Station → Xixinan Ancient Village → Xidi → Hongcun (stay near the scenic area entrance, night tour of Hongcun)
DAY 2️⃣ Lucun → Tachuan → Xieli → Qishuhu → Bishan Village → Hongcun
DAY 3️⃣ Hongcun → Pingshan Village → Nanping Village → Guanlu Village → Home

👆The above itinerary is quite full. If you only have 2 days, keep DAY 1 and DAY 2. The Lucun-Tachuan-Xieli-Qishuhu route on DAY 2 is a small loop and the essence of the trip. You can rent a small electric scooter or even hike; the scenery along the way is really beautiful. There aren’t many photo spots, but the view is everywhere.

👆If you can get up early, reserve one morning for the Lucun viewing platform and another morning for Qishuhu. If you can’t get up early or it’s cloudy, don’t worry. The beauty of Huizhou in autumn lies in the fact that even without sunshine, on cloudy or rainy days, it still has a special charm.

👆In autumn, the countryside around these villages looks even better. In the distance, you’ll see misty mountains flowing with clouds; nearby are rice paddies, vegetable fields, and colorful autumn trees; in the middle are classical Huizhou-style residences. Beautiful.

📅 About the best time to view autumn:

I went in mid-November last year, which was just right. The weather is a bit strange this year, but the period from November 12 to 25 should still be stable.

Pay special attention to the fallen leaves of the Chinese tallow tree. Among the mountains and fields, I think the shape and color of the Chinese tallow tree are the most beautiful. Having an old Chinese tallow tree with colorful leaves instantly brightens the scenery. If it suddenly gets cold and the leaves fall off, the scenery looks empty and less attractive.

🚌 About transportation:

Public transportation in Yixian is quite developed. Honestly, parking is not very convenient during the autumn peak season if you drive yourself. Taking taxis to nearby spots is actually quite convenient. If you stay in Hongcun, renting a small electric scooter to explore the surroundings is more comfortable.

💰 About costs:

Honestly, the village entrance fees in Yixian are a bit expensive. Last year there was a free admission promotion, but this year the fees have been restored. You can either buy a combined ticket or just explore the countryside outside the villages. A ticket for Hongcun + Tachuan + Lucun is enough.

🛏️ About accommodation:

You can stay outside Hongcun. The Hongcun ticket allows re-entry for 3 days, which is convenient for entering the village early to avoid tourists. If you want to get up early to see the morning scenery at Tachuan and Qishuhu, the distance is also very close. Dining is convenient too, with places like KFC available.
