Yunlin Huwei｜Gongyun Temple's Flourishing Incense Offerings ‧ Zilong's Virtue Protects the People

In Yunlin's Huwei, aside from the common temples dedicated to Mazu, Guanyin, and Guan Sheng Dijun, there is a unique place of worship—Gongyun Temple.

Gongyun Temple is dedicated to the famous general Zhao Zilong from the Three Kingdoms period. Known for his loyalty, bravery, and exceptional courage, his legendary deeds, such as the rescue of Liu Bei's son during the Battle of Changban, have earned him admiration through the ages. The people of Huwei, inspired by his valor and loyalty, built this temple to honor him, praying for the protection of their homes and the uprightness of their descendants.

The temple's exterior is solemn and elegant, with the words "Gongyun Temple" boldly inscribed on the archway. Inside, visitors can see a statue of Zhao Zilong, clad in armor, holding a silver spear, exuding an aura of heroism. Worshippers come here to burn incense and pray for courage, justice, and protection.

Standing before the main hall, I clasped my hands in prayer and silently recited:
"May I learn from Zilong's loyalty and righteousness, unafraid in the face of great challenges;
May I walk the path of life with integrity and uprightness in my heart."

As I stepped out of Gongyun Temple and gazed at the dragon carvings on the roof, I felt a newfound strength within. This visit was not just an act of reverence for an ancient hero but also a reminder: in life, one should embody loyalty and courage, protecting what they hold dear.
