From Ibusuki, take the Ibusuki Makurazaki Line south to reach Nishi-Oyama Station, the southernmost station of Japan's JR railway.
The distant view of Mount Kaimon, combined with the railway tracks and the southernmost marker, is very beautiful.
The surrounding area is filled with lush green fields and horse farms.
Next to the station, there is a local specialty and souvenir shop.
You can also choose postcards here to send back home as a souvenir (just tell the staff where you want to send it, and they will put the stamp on for you).
Drop it in the yellow mailbox next to the station.
There aren't many train services at Nishi-Oyama Station, but it's a niche spot perfect for railway enthusiasts to check in.
Make sure to check the return times to avoid a long wait.
Here are the stations introduced inside the station:
JR Northernmost Station: Wakkanai
JR Southernmost Station: Nishi-Oyama
JR Easternmost Station: Higashi-Nemuro
JR Westernmost Station: Sasebo
📍Address: Yamagawaoyama, Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture 891-0514, Japan
