Ine Funaya is located in Ine-cho, a beautiful seaside town in northern Kyoto Prefecture. Funaya houses are uniquely designed with a boat garage on the first floor and living space on the second floor, and are built as if they are floating on the sea.
This scenery, which gives a sense of the town's history as a fishing town, is something you won't see very often anywhere else.
◆Charms
- Townscape integrated with the sea: Since the Funaya buildings are adjacent to the sea, it is common to see boats parked in front of the houses.
- Photogenic: The Funaya are especially great at sunset when they shine on the sea, and when shrouded in morning mist.
- Relaxed time: Unlike tourist spots, this is a space where locals live, so it has a quiet and calm atmosphere.
- Fresh seafood: You can also enjoy dishes made with locally caught seafood. The seafood bowls and fresh sashimi are delicious!
◆Notes
- Living space: Although Funaya is a tourist spot, it is still a residence, so please do not shout or enter the premises without permission.
- Check parking: If you are visiting by car, use a designated parking lot.
- Visiting the boathouses: Some of the boathouses are used as accommodation facilities, but the areas where you can visit are limited.
The boathouses of Ine are special places where you can feel the laid-back seaside lifestyle. When you visit, enjoy the quiet time and cherish the harmony with the local people.
