Travelogue of Perak Cave Temple

Ipoh is often called the "City of Cave Temples" due to its numerous temples, and one of the most famous among them is the Perak Cave Temple (Chinese: 霹雳洞). Established in 1926 by a monk and his wife from Guangdong, China, this temple remains a beloved destination for both Buddhist devotees and travelers.

🏯 Entrance and First Impressions

As soon as you arrive at the temple, you'll be greeted by traditional Chinese temple architecture set against a backdrop of towering limestone cliffs. The entrance is bustling with people lighting incense, and the vibrant red lanterns hanging around create an exotic atmosphere.

🙏 Buddha Statue Inside the Cave

Upon entering, the first thing that catches your eye is a golden Buddha statue standing approximately 15 meters tall. Nestled within the cool, dimly lit cave, the statue exudes an overwhelming sense of grandeur and mystique. The cave walls are adorned with Buddhist murals and scriptures, making it clear that this is not just a tourist spot but a living space of faith.

🪜 Stairs and Scenic View

Another highlight of the Perak Cave Temple is the staircase at the back of the cave. Climbing over 400 steps leads you to an observation deck offering panoramic views of Ipoh city and the surrounding limestone hills. While the climb can be a bit strenuous, the refreshing and rewarding scenery at the top makes it all worthwhile. Many visitors take photos and rest here before heading back down.
