Okage Yokocho – A town with an Edo atmosphere to enjoy together with a visit to Ise Shrine

Ise City, Mie Prefecture.
After visiting Ise Grand Shrine, I went to Okage Yokocho.
This alley, which recreates the streets of the Edo period, is a place where you can enjoy the atmosphere just by walking around.
Since I was there, I decided to try some local specialties.
I started off by ordering Ise udon for ¥600.
The soft noodles had a unique texture that was impressive.
Afterwards, I decided to try some Matsusaka beef croquettes for ¥330 and Ise-Shima beer for ¥400.
The batter was crispy and the flavor of the meat was plentiful. Pairing it with an Ise-Shima craft beer made me feel even more like I was on a trip.
There was also a great selection of souvenirs, and I bought some aosa tsukudani (simmered seaweed) from Ise Bay.
I tried a sample and thought it was incredibly flavorful, making it the perfect accompaniment to rice.
I visited around 2:30 pm on a weekday, but it was crowded.
If you visit this spot in addition to a visit to Ise Grand Shrine, I feel it's a great place to enjoy sightseeing, gourmet food, and shopping all at once.
This is a highly recommended spot, so please do check it out.
