The Tohoku Pacific Ocean Earthquake, which recorded a magnitude of 9.0 and a maximum seismic intensity of 7, originated off the coast of Sanriku

The Pacific coast suffered devastating damage due to the huge tsunami.

Ishinomaki City has maintained and opened the Kadowaki Elementary School disaster relic to pass on the events and lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake to future generations.

The school building is the only disaster relic in Japan that still retains the state of the tsunami and tsunami fires

It can be viewed from an external corridor, but the scars are still vividly visible, which was heartbreaking.

In the exhibition hall,
the memories of survivors are expressed through words (poems) and pictures.
I couldn't stop crying while reading.
It is a space where you can think about what you have learned from the disaster and apply it to your own life.
A diorama of Minamihama and Kadowaki districts before the disaster
There should have been so many houses there...
I was reminded of the horror of the disaster and keenly felt that we must not let it fade away.
