Hagia Sophia is a magnificent man-made structure located in Istanbul, Turkey. This mosque is one of the 7 wonders of the world and the 8th wonder of the Middle Ages.
The Hagia Sophia was originally a Christian church for over 900 years. It has a rounded roof in the style of Mozart, marble columns, and stained glass windows.
Later, when the Turks occupied the city, they converted the church into a mosque in 1453 by plastering the walls covered with mosaics of Jesus Christ and his disciples. This marked the end of the greatness of Christian churches, along with the beginning of a new style of mosque construction in the form of a church dome.
The Hagia Sophia was built in the Ottoman Empire, which was the prototype for many other mosques. The highlight of the Hagia Sophia is the dome, which is the 4th largest in the world. It was built using walls to support the weight of the building to the ground instead of the usual supporting columns. This type of design and construction was considered a very advanced technique for that era.
