If you are travelling to Istanbul, one place that you have to visit is the taksim square where this is famous for its many ancient old buildings, historical landmarks, local traditional Turkish food but of course many of these shops are out to mark up prices especially when you are tourists.
This will be the heart of Istanbul where you will also see several hotels, many restaurants, traditional local sweets and also a tram that goes in the middle of the entire taksim square.
