The Blue Mosque, officially known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, is a stunning example of classical Ottoman architecture and a must-visit landmark in Istanbul. Constructed between 1609 and 1617 during the reign of Sultan Ahmed I, this mosque is renowned for its magnificent blue Iznik tiles that adorn the interior walls, giving it the popular name “Blue Mosque.” The mosque features a grand central dome flanked by four semi-domes and is supported by four massive “elephant foot” pillars. Its six minarets are a distinctive feature, setting it apart from other mosques which typically have two or four. The interior is illuminated by natural light filtering through more than 200 stained glass windows, creating a serene and spiritual atmosphere. Visitors are often awestruck by the intricate calligraphy and floral motifs that decorate the walls and ceilings.
