The National Breakfast of Turkey: The Aromatic Simit on the Streets

Walking through the streets of Istanbul, it's hard to miss the vendors pushing their little red carts selling Simit! This Turkish version of a bagel, with its crispy exterior and soft, sesame-scented interior, is simple yet irresistible.

Early in the morning, I followed the locals and bought a freshly baked Simit. The crispy crust combined with the rich sesame aroma, and the soft, slightly chewy interior was incredibly satisfying! Locals love to pair it with a cup of Turkish tea (Çay) or enjoy it with cheese and olive paste. This combination makes for a classic Turkish breakfast.

The best part is that Simit is cheap and widely available. Whether you're in the bustling Taksim Square or by the Bosphorus Strait, you can always find a Simit vendor. Enjoying the scenery while munching on a Simit is the quintessential Turkish street experience!
