Mount Omuro | The Green Cone of the Izu Peninsula

Mount Omuro (Ōmuroyama), located on the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, is a nearly perfectly conical volcano. Standing 580 meters tall, the mountain is covered in lush green grass and devoid of trees. From a distance, it resembles a jewel resting quietly on the earth.

🌿 Natural Features
The crater is approximately 300 meters in diameter and surrounded by a grassy path. From the summit, you can stroll along the "Oba-meguri" (crater trail) for panoramic views of the Izu Plateau, Sagami Bay, and even, on clear days, Mount Fuji and the Seven Islands.

🔥 History and Culture
Mount Omuro has been a major site for fire festivals since ancient times. The annual "Yama Yama-sai" (mountain burning festival) in February sees the entire mountain set ablaze. The flames illuminate the night sky, symbolizing purification and blessings. It is one of the most spectacular traditional events in the Izu region.

🚡 Experience
• The chairlift takes about 6 minutes to reach the summit, where the grassy slopes change color with the seasons.
• The summit trail is approximately 1 kilometer long and can be easily circumnavigated on a leisurely stroll.
• An archery range is located in the center of the crater, where visitors can practice traditional archery techniques.

✨ Travel Tips
• Best Seasons: Spring and autumn offer pleasant weather and clear views, perfect for viewing Mount Fuji from afar.
• Transportation: Approximately 15 minutes by bus from Izu Kogen Station.
• Note: The summit can be windy, so bring a jacket; sunscreen is recommended in the summer.
