Couple Cedars (Children's Cedars)
When you visit Hie Shrine, next to Shuzenji, you'll see two giant trees. They tower to the left of the shrine.
Not only are these two trees beautifully shaped, but many other cedar trees are also beautifully shaped.
Appropriately for Hie Shrine, famous for its fertility prayers, to the left of the main hall is a truly magnificent "Couple Cedars" tree, over 800 years old, also known as the "Children's Cedar."
These cedars are unique in that their bases are joined together. Apparently, a staircase was once built between the two trees, allowing visitors to pass through.
This, along with the giant "Ichi-kashi" (Japanese yew) tree to the right, makes a wonderful place to visit.
