A Jeonju trip that's convenient even without a car, and 1 night and 2 days is enough 💖
🧳
✨️ How to Get to Jeonju
I've mostly taken the train to Jeonju. While there's no subway in Jeonju, most of the famous tourist attractions are concentrated here, so I usually walk or take a taxi.
When driving, parking is just like any other tourist attraction, but it can be tricky. I often used the Nambu Market parking lot. While there's a parking fee, it's cheaper than in Seoul, so it's not too expensive.
✨️ Jeonju Hanok Village
✔️Location: 99 Girin-daero, Wansan-gu, Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do
Everyone thinks of Jeonju Hanok Village. It's a must-see when traveling to Jeonju. You can spend an entire day here, seeing, experiencing, eating, and drinking. 🤭
Get off at the train station or bus terminal and take a taxi straight to the Hanok Village. From this moment, when you see people in various hanbok, your Jeonju adventure truly begins.
Renting school uniforms was once a popular trend at tourist destinations, but these days, hanbok rental shops are abundant in areas with historical sites like palaces and the Hanok Village. It's a familiar yet rare sight, so it's fun to see people in hanbok.
✨️ Lunch_Veteran Kalguksu
✔️ Location: 135 Gyeonggijeon-gil, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do
I'm hungry. Let's start by eating. :) I'll have a light lunch. Jeonju Veteran Kalguksu, now available in Seoul, is located in the Hanok Village. I've been twice, and the steaming hot kalguksu is even better on a chilly day than in the summer. :)
The kalguksu portion is huge for one person. While this place is famous for its kalguksu, the spicy noodles here are truly special. I enjoyed the spicy noodles even more. If you're going with more than one person, I recommend ordering jjolmyeon (spicy noodles) and sharing it instead of just kalguksu!
✨️ Jeonju Gyeonggijeon
✔️ Location: 44 Taejo-ro, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do
✔️ Hours: Daily 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM * Subject to change
✔️ Admission: Adults 3,000 won, Youth/College Students/Military 2,000 won, Children 1,000 won * Discount for Jeonju residents
Gyeonggijeon, located within the Hanok Village, was built in 1410 (the 10th year of King Taejong's reign) to enshrine the portrait of King Taejo, founder of the Joseon Dynasty, a national treasure, and to hold ancestral rites.
The serene Jeongjeon Hall, stone walls, and lush bamboo forest, reminiscent of the Joseon Dynasty, make it a popular photo spot. Perhaps for this reason, you'll often see visitors dressed in hanbok.
The Gyeonggijeon Shrine, filled with a historical drama atmosphere, offers a chance to learn about Korean history and take beautiful photos. It's well worth the price of admission. :)
✨️ Jeonju Hanok Village Snack Time
Jeonju Hanok Village offers a wide variety of food. There are so many street snacks that you'll find yourself with a handful of snacks as you walk. Since Jeonju's tourist attractions are limited, the main focus is not on what to do, but on the food.
Ojjang, which is a bit tricky to eat, is delicious, along with octopus skewers and chicken skewers topped with cheese. These days, they also sell a lot of tanghulu (sweet rice cakes). :)
✨️ Jeondong Cathedral
✔️ Location: 51 Taejo-ro, Wansan-gu, Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do
✔️ Hours: Daily 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
✔️ Note! Access may be restricted during mass.
Jondong Cathedral remains the same every time I visit. Its beauty remains unchanged over time. I think the charm of all cathedrals is that they remain more beautiful as they age.
There's a lot of competition to get a commemorative photo from the front of Jeondong Cathedral. So I tend to take the side. The red bricks are beautiful, and the side view is also really atmospheric. It's a cathedral so beautiful that people ask if I've been to the Vatican. 💖
Jeondong Cathedral, photographed against the pink sky at sunset, looks completely different from what I saw during the day. It's truly beautiful.
✨️Dinner_Nambu Market Hanok Village Night Market
✔️Location: 19-3 Pungnammun 1-gil, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do
✔️Hours: Friday, Saturday, 5:00 PM - 11:00 PM
For dinner, I head to Nambu Night Market. I love going to markets wherever I go, but the night market atmosphere is especially captivating.
Nambu Market is open Friday and Saturday from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, so be sure to check the opening hours carefully.
For dinner, I ordered sundae gukbap and blood sausage from Jojeomrye Nammun Blood Sundae. I can't eat blood sausage, but the sausage at Sundae Gukbap can be replaced with cellophane noodles!
Since I came all the way to the night market, I didn't want to just sit down and eat at a restaurant, so I bought plenty of late-night snacks like pad thai, bulgopchang, and bulchobap. I really enjoyed the culinary delights of traveling. :)
✨️The Classic by Hotel One
✔️ Location: 21-19 Ogong-ro, Iseo-myeon, Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do
Compared to other areas, Jeonju doesn't have many hotels, so accommodation options can be limited. I've stayed at guesthouses in the Hanok Village a few times, but the floors were hot and the strong winds made it cold. For a more comfortable night's sleep, I chose The Classic by Hotel One, which is located outside the Hanok Village.
While it's a bit far from the Hanok Village, the area is quiet, and most importantly, the hotel is clean, making it the perfect place to end a day. The comfortable bathroom and soft bed are perfect for unwinding. :)
If it's your first time in Jeonju, I recommend staying in the Hanok Village instead!
🧳
✨️ Jaman Mural Village
✔️ Location: 50-158 Gongdong, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do
Breakfast was a hotel breakfast! Our first destination on Day 2 of our Jeonju trip was Jaman Mural Village. Jaman Mural Village isn't very big, but I've always enjoyed it as a post-breakfast stroll during my Jeonju trips.
While the location is the same, the murals are more diverse and updated each time we visit, making it feel fresh and new. Some restaurants disappear and new ones open. That's why it's nice to visit the same places every time. 🤭
As you wander through the alleys, you'll come across several cozy and charming cafes, perfect for a quick break. From the Mural Village, you can also see Jeonju Confucian School. If you have time, be sure to explore the Mural Village and visit the Confucian School!
✨️ Lunch_Gogung Suragan Jeonju Bibimbap
✔️ Location: 31 Eunhaeng-ro, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do
Several representative dishes of Jeonju come to mind: Jeonju bibimbap, Jeonju bean sprout hangover soup, Jeonju tteokgalbi (grilled short ribs), or Jeonju's famous veteran kalguksu (noodle soup with vegetables). But I'll stick to the basics: Jeonju is bibimbap!
Don't listen to those who nag you about still eating Jeonju bibimbap in Jeonju. They've probably never tasted such delicious Jeonju bibimbap.
I got a recommendation from a Jeonju resident and ordered Jeonju Dolsot Bibimbap, a dish topped with a variety of vegetables, and Jeonju Traditional Bibimbap, served in a brass bowl, for my first meal at Gogung Suragan. Bibimbap is the best, after all, Jeonju bibimbap! It's absolutely delicious. 👍
✨️ Jeonju Souvenirs
Since I've been to Jeonju, I have to buy some souvenirs. When I think of Jeonju, Choco Pies are the first thing that comes to mind. They're delicious and beautifully packaged, making them perfect gifts.
When I visit Jeonju, I usually buy PNB Handmade Choco Pies from Poongnyeon Confectionery. People who visit Jeonju also buy them the most.
The large Choco Pies can be a bit overwhelming, but they also have mini Choco Pies in a variety of flavors, like chocolate, green tea, and cheese! 😍
