If there's one destination in Yunnan you'll never regret visiting, it's Shaxi.
Far from the hustle and bustle of cities, this place preserves the traditions of the Bai people.
Walking on the cobblestone paths, you'll see locals going about their daily lives.
For me, Shaxi's greatest charm lies in its escape from the mundane world.

Itinerary | Morning Market - Square Street - Ancient Stage - Yujin Bridge - Return to Homestay
•
Every Friday from 7:00-9:00 AM, the vibrant morning market comes alive—the freshest way to experience Shaxi. Bai grandmothers trek down from the mountains with bamboo baskets filled with freshly grilled cheese cubes, tangy pea jelly to whet your appetite, seasonal wild mushrooms, and water chestnut-like caltrops. Beyond being a feast for the senses, you can also find Bai tie-dye fabrics, wood carvings, and other handicrafts at prices more reasonable than tourist spots.
•
A short walk from the market leads to Square Street, the heart of Shaxi. The upturned eaves of the ancient stage and its weathered murals whisper tales of the caravan trade's former glory. If you visit during ethnic festivals, you might catch impromptu Bai song and dance performances. Stop by Mint Café (the real-life inspiration for the drama's "Windy Café") for a coffee and soak in the same ambiance featured in the show~
•
In the afternoon, pass through Dongzhai Gate and stroll along the river to Yujin Bridge. This Qing-dynasty stone arch bridge looks ethereal in morning mist and turns golden at sunset. Winter mornings bring misty landscapes, while fluffy sheep graze by the riverbank during the day.

▪️Yundu Shaxi Courtyard
After a day of exploration, unwind at Yundu Shaxi Courtyard. This century-old Bai residence is guarded by a 300-year-old locust tree at its entrance. Inside, koi fish glide beneath a tranquil pond, and an apple tree in the corner bears fruit within reach.
