Slow Living Through Time in Shaxi Ancient Town

Discovered this gem of an ancient town during my vacation in Yunnan👉 Shaxi! It preserves the most authentic Bai ethnic culture, with few tourists but full of charm. A three-day, two-night slow-living healing trip is just perfect~

🌟Day 1: Arrival in Shaxi
Check into the "May Read" guesthouse near the ancient stage after noon arrival—open the window to see century-old architecture. Stroll casually along the bluestone paths of "Sideng Street" in the afternoon, visit "Xingjiao Temple" and the "Ancient Stage," then enjoy authentic braised chicken at "Shaxi Flavors" restaurant in the evening, paired with a glass of plum wine for ultimate satisfaction~

🌟Day 2: In-Depth Exploration
Head to Yujin Bridge in the morning for stunning photos of the ancient bridge in the mist! Then visit "Ouyang Courtyard" to see the well-preserved old caravan house, and have wild mushroom hotpot at "First Sight Shaxi" by the stage at noon. In the afternoon, bike to "Bailongtan" for scenic views, stop by "Pioneer Bookstore" for coffee and reading on the way back, and enjoy ham-stewed tofu in the courtyard of "Xilu Garden" in the evening.

🌟Day 3: Nearby Adventures
Take a 20-minute chartered ride to "Shibao Mountain" to see the grottoes (remember to wear comfortable shoes), and have fresh seasonal dishes at a "Bai Ethnic Family Restaurant" at the foot of the mountain for lunch. Return to the ancient town in the afternoon for souvenirs—"Match Coffee's" drip bags and "Grandma A Rui's Shop" handmade tie-dye items are both unique~

🍲 Must-Try Foods:
- Shaxi's three signature dishes: braised chicken, ham-stewed tofu, and milk cake
- The sourdough bread at "Universe Bakery" is a must
- Visit the weekly Friday market for the freshest mountain produce

💡 Practical Tips:
1. Shared rides from Lijiang/Dali are most convenient, about a 2-hour drive.
2. The ancient town has bluestone paths—bring wheeled luggage.
3. Large temperature differences between day and night—pack a jacket.
4. Many guesthouses converted from old houses have thin walls—light sleepers should bring earplugs.
