A Poetic Journey to Jiande Xixia Qingye, a Hidden Gem on the Fuchun River

Hotel: Jiande Xixia · Qingye
Address: No. 19, Jiangnan Road, Sandu Town, Jiande

As the car rounds the last bend in the mountain, it arrives at this wabi-sabi aesthetic homestay hidden deep within the picturesque hundred-mile gallery of the Xin'an River. The entire building complex resembles a work of art emerging from the mountain itself, with the designer's deliberate preservation of the rammed earth walls engaging in a dramatic dialogue with the concrete lines. The design of the common area is a perfect example of ever-changing scenery. The sunken library displays rare art books against an entire rammed earth wall, while the tea room, suspended above the bamboo forest, evokes the image of a celestial cave. Most striking is the open-air swimming pool extending to the river, and in winter, private hot spring pools are also available by the river.

The rooms facing the river are equipped with bathtubs and projectors. On afternoons when you prefer to stay in, you can enjoy a relaxing bath and curl up in bed or on the sofa, projecting movies and transforming the river view and bamboo sea into a dynamic ink painting. Each room features underfloor heating and smart home controls, striking a perfect balance between returning to nature and modern comfort.

In the morning, awaken to the aroma of the Nine Surnames Fish Feast, a local specialty of Jiande's nine fishing families, creatively presented by the housekeeper. The breakfast combination of Yanzhou dried vegetable duck and freshly ground tofu reveals why even the "A Bite of China" team chose this location for filming. Don't miss the special homemade preserved mustard greens and pork buns, where three-year fermented mustard greens meet free-range black pork, creating an unforgettable savory aroma.

Located on the banks of the Fuchun River, Xixia · Qingye is nestled within the scenery itself. There's no need to venture far; just outside the door lies a poetic landscape of small bridges, flowing water, and classic Jiangnan scenery. As the sun sets, take a stroll along the riverbank, waiting for the sunset, or cast a fishing rod and enjoy the tranquility of solitude. A 5-minute walk from the homestay is the Shuo Art Space, which integrates the Shanghai Sanlian Bookstore, an intangible cultural heritage art exhibition hall, and a multi-functional exhibition hall.
