The hidden treasure town in northern Sichuan can no longer be kept secret! Phoenix Flying, Fireworks Like a Dream

Guangyuan Daughter’s Day Guide: Phoenix Flying, Fireworks Like a Dream, this northern Sichuan town has given me so many surprises!

A millennium-spanning women-themed cultural journey allowed me to find the most stunning travel experience of 2025 in Guangyuan, a small town in northern Sichuan!

I heard there’s a place in Sichuan where all women get a day off on September 1 every year? That’s right! It’s Guangyuan Daughter’s Day! In 2025, this cultural feast with full sensory bombardment of sound, light, and electricity features a drone phoenix spreading its wings, Jialing River phoenix boat races, a Tang Dynasty costume parade, and 40,000 fireworks lighting up the night sky! Trust me, this is definitely the most worthwhile hidden destination to visit in the second half of the year!

🎉 Highlights of Daughter’s Day in my eyes

Drone + Fireworks Show: At 8 PM, 2,000 drones gather like fireflies over Nanhe Stadium, using the night sky as a canvas to depict the grandeur of Jianmen Pass and the feminine spirit of the phoenix boat race. The most breathtaking moment is when a phoenix raises its head and spreads its wings, its tail trailing sparks of fireworks, followed by a dazzling display of 40,000 fireworks that moved me to tears instantly!

International Phoenix Boat Race: 23 all-female teams cut through the waves on the Jialing River. The flying oars showcase the spirit of resilience, hard work, and courage of modern women. As the birthplace of the only female emperor in history, this cultural identity is the primary attraction for tourists.

Intangible Cultural Heritage Folk Parade: Over 600 people form a parade team marching along 2.3 kilometers of Lizhou East Road singing and dancing. My favorite is the golden phoenix float, displaying the majestic power of Empress Wu Zetian, along with the boldness of Ansai waist drums and the joyfulness of Serbian folk dance.

💡 Practical Tips

Transportation: It takes only about 1.5 hours by high-speed train from Chengdu to Guangyuan. With a high-speed train ticket and ID, you can enjoy a 30% discount on scenic spot tickets within one week!

Accommodation: It’s recommended to book hotels in advance in the city center or around the Jialing River for convenient views and travel.

Itinerary:

· Morning: Watch the phoenix boat race and feel the heroic spirit of women on the Jialing River
· Afternoon: Watch the intangible cultural heritage parade and experience the Tang Dynasty costume time travel (costumes available for rent on site)
· Evening: Secure the best spots around Nanhe Stadium to enjoy the drone and fireworks show

Food Recommendations: Guangyuan cold noodles, Jianmen tofu feast, and Empress steamed cold noodles are all local specialties!

Blogger’s Tip: The crowd is large during the festival, so it’s best to arrive 30 minutes to an hour early to secure good viewing and performance spots; bring a power bank to keep your phone charged—you’ll be taking lots of photos!

💝 My Feelings

Tang Qixiu, a 65-year-old local, tearfully said on site, “Guangyuan is a city of progress that makes me feel very happy.” I truly felt this happiness too. Daughter’s Day is not just about performances and competitions; it’s an immersion in culture and emotional resonance.

Guangzhou visitor Li Ling’s comment is very honest: “Very shocking, very perfect... Beautiful Guangyuan lives up to its reputation.”

📅 Event Time

The 2025 Daughter’s Day runs from August 24 to September 13, but the core activities are concentrated on September 1 and the surrounding weekends. It’s recommended to plan 2-3 days and also visit Jianmen Pass, Huangze Temple, and other attractions.
