| An exotic journey on the China-Laos Railway].
Xishuangbanna is the hometown of the Dai people.
Each of their villages is built by the water.
From bathing the Buddha, splashing water, bathing, dragon boating, washing, etc.,
every aspect of life is inseparable from water.
So they are called the "water" nation.
Every year from April 13th to 15th, you can come to Xishuangbanna to experience the traditional festival of the Dai people - Water Splashing Festival, which is also the Dai New Year in Xishuangbanna.
In this joyous festival, whether you know each other or not, you can splash water on each other to pass on blessings, symbolizing the good times of bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new.
Xishuangbanna is a holy place of Theravada Buddhism.
Each Dai village has its own pagoda,
as well as small pagodas on the wells as decorations.
When Dai boys are of school age, they are usually sent to Buddhist temples to study, becoming young monks for a period of time, and then returning home after graduation.
In Xishuangbanna, everyone must remember two animals: elephants and peacocks.
Legend has it that Sakyamuni came to Xishuangbanna riding an elephant, so elephants have a sacred status in the hearts of the Dai people.
Peacocks are regarded as "auspicious birds". Many Dai people raise peacocks in their homes. During festivals, they also perform the famous peacock dance "Ga Luo Yong".
Dense tropical rainforest, mysterious Southern Buddhism, rich exotic customs, Xishuangbanna is a place you must visit once in your life.
