This trip can be described as an in-depth journey into the natural beauty of the plateau, focusing on experiencing the magnificent glaciers, azure lakes, and snowy mountain scenery of the Aba region in Sichuan. Whether you're looking to explore alpine meadows or immerse yourself in Tibetan and Qiang cultures, this trip is perfect for you! Having personally visited, I found every spot full of surprises and photo opportunities. Below is my recommended exploration route:
Part one:
🗓️ Itinerary:
First stop: Shuangqiaogou Scenic Area - Glacier (Shuangqiaogou, Siguniangshan Town, Xiaojin County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province)
Second stop: Shuangqiaogou White Sand Beach Viewing Platform (Tourist Road, Shuangqiaogou, Xiaojin County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province)
Third stop: Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area (Zhangzha Town, Jiuzhaigou County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, Provincial Highway 301)
💙 Highlights of the attractions:
1. Shuangqiaogou Scenic Area - Glacier
The most captivating feature here is undoubtedly the spectacular glacier. With the backdrop of Siguniang Mountain and snow-covered peaks, it feels like stepping into a mythical world. Walking through the glacier area, you can enjoy the scenery of snow-capped mountains and plateau meadows, making it especially suitable for photography enthusiasts or those who want to quietly experience the awe of nature. The air is particularly fresh in the morning, offering a very comfortable experience.
2. Shuangqiaogou White Sand Beach Viewing Platform
It is recommended to walk down from the glacier to the White Sand Beach Viewing Platform. The river here is crystal clear, and the scenery changes with the seasons: wildflowers bloom in spring, lush green grass in summer, golden leaves in autumn, and a snowy white landscape in winter. From the viewing platform, you can overlook the entire Shuangqiaogou valley, with distant views of snow peaks and riverbanks, making it a perfect spot for stunning photos.
3. Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area
Jiuzhaigou is Sichuan's most famous and world-class natural scenic area. The lakes are colorful, the forests are picturesque, and the waterfalls are thunderous. It is suitable to visit in all seasons, especially in autumn when the colors are beyond imagination. Be sure to enter early (open from 7:30-8:30 AM), as it gets crowded in the afternoon. Opening hours vary: April 1 - July 15 (08:00-18:00); July 16 - November 9 (07:30-18:00); November 10 - March 31 (08:30-18:00). Tickets are 280 RMB, and online reservations are recommended.
✨ Must-visit photo spots:
- The boardwalk in front of the glacier at Siguniang Mountain, where you must capture the distant view and the reflection of the snowy mountains.
- The riverside and viewing platform at White Sand Beach, where the water is exceptionally clear under the sunlight.
- Jiuzhaigou's Five Flower Lake, Mirror Lake, and Nuorilang Waterfall are must-visit spots for photography enthusiasts.
🔔 Practical tips:
- Jiuzhaigou is at a high altitude, so keep warm and protect yourself from the sun. Avoid rushing the itinerary and allow time to adapt to the plateau.
- Follow local regulations in the scenic areas and do not litter.
- Bring your own water and high-energy snacks to maintain your strength.
- Best seasons: Jiuzhaigou is most colorful in autumn, while Siguniang Mountain's snow scenery is stunning in winter.
- If it's your first time visiting a high-altitude area, rest more and avoid strenuous activities.
⚠️ Notes:
- Signal in the scenic areas may be unstable, so download maps in advance.
- The temperature difference between day and night is significant, so dress in layers and bring extra jackets.
- Be cautious on mountain roads; some glacier routes can be slippery, so wear non-slip shoes for safety.
Overall, this route is perfect for nature lovers. Whether you're into photography, hiking, or simply escaping the hustle and bustle of city life, you'll find your own serene plateau moments here.
