Jixi is an early developed area in the northeastern frontier of China

Later, the descendants of the Sushen people, including the Yiluo, Wuji and Jurchen, spread throughout the land of Jixi.
During the Tang Dynasty, Jixi officially had exchanges with the Central Plains region, and the Bohai Kingdom established Dongping Prefecture here.
The city was established in 1957.
In 2012, the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles awarded Jixi City the title of "Hometown of Sushen Culture in China", recognizing that Jixi is the birthplace of the Sushen people, the ancestors of the Manchus, and the birthplace of Sushen ethnic culture.
