✎ Tips and Tricks

Legend has it that this cave was the base of Kawakami Takeru, the leader of the Kumaso tribe, who appears in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. It's also said to be the place where Yamato Takeru no Mikoto disguised himself as a woman and defeated him.

The cave's entrance is narrow, but the interior is spacious and open. The first cave is approximately 22 meters deep, 10 meters wide, and 6 meters high. The second cave is even larger, but is currently closed due to a landslide.

The lighting is self-contained: a switch at the entrance illuminates the interior. Please be mindful of your feet and the sound of water droplets.

Artist Sadayuki Hagiwara's modern art murals, themed on a dialogue with the sun, moon, stars, and nature, create a mystical space. Visitors are enveloped in a ritual-like atmosphere.

A unique space nestled in the forest, where the cool air and tranquility, history, and contemporary art intertwine. It's an experience you can only enjoy if you muster up the courage to take a step inside.
