Zili Village:“Heritage Fields of Watchtowers"

Zili Village Of the original 3000 Diaolou (fortified watchtowers), 1830 are left today and Zili Village here has the greatest concentration of them.

Of the 30 plus diaolou in Zili, only 3 of them are open to the public to see the interior. These diaolou are built in the 17th to 19th century. These locals who are working overseas will remit their money back home to built these diaolous and they are used as housing,schools and serve as a fortifications about attacks by bandits.

Because of the western influences, the Diaolous will incorporate the western architecture in the external facade and is Guangdong Province only UNESCO World Heritage Site.
