Baijiayan, located within the Yuntaishan Scenic Area, is the birthplace of Chinese landscape gardening, which spread from the imperial court to the common people. Its scenic beauty dates back to ancient times, and Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty, Liu Xie, once sought refuge from the summer heat here. According to Chinese garden expert Huang Shuye, Baijiayan is China's earliest artificial garden.

During the Wei and Jin dynasties, this was the retreat of the " Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove . " Ji Kang, Ruan Ji, and Shan Tao, sharing similar interests, abandoned their official positions to pursue literature. Traveling here, they planted numerous flowers, plants, and bamboo trees, enhancing the scenic beauty of the area. They remained here for over 20 years.
