A quaint townscape where the teahouse culture continues today

#cityplaybook

It is one of the representative tourist destinations in Kanazawa, and the townscape with its beautiful lattices and cobblestones has also been selected as a preservation area for the country's important traditional buildings. Originally, in the 3rd year of Bunsei (1820), Narihiro Maeda, the 12th lord of the Kaga Domain, organised the teahouses scattered around the castle town and built a teahouse street. Even today, traditional buildings from the Edo period are lined up. Cafes and shops selling Japanese sweets, traditional crafts, miscellaneous goods, etc. using those buildings are scattered, and you can enjoy shopping and dining in the charming townscape. In addition, at dusk, the eaves lights are lit, creating a quaint atmosphere. No matter where you cut it out, the scenery that becomes a picture continues, and it's fun just to take a walk.
