Kenrokuen, the famous garden in Kanazawa, Japan, is home to the legendary "Kotoji Lantern." This stone lantern, resembling a bridge with its two legs firmly planted, stands quietly by the Kasumigaike Pond and is one of the most iconic features of Kenrokuen. The name "Kotoji" is said to be derived from the decorative parts of the front wheels of traditional ox carts, giving it a unique and elegant historical charm.
Sitting on the stone steps by the pond, I watched the lantern and garden reflected on the water's surface. The breeze swayed the willow branches, and time seemed to pause in the Edo period. Whether it's spring cherry blossoms, summer greenery, autumn maple leaves, or winter snow, this view always captivates the heart.
📍 Location: Kenrokuen [Kotoji Lantern] 1-4 Kenroku-machi, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture
