by Moutain
Jul 21, 2025
Address: 1-2 Kenrokumachi, Kanazawa, Ishikawa 920-0936, Japan
Getting there: Take a bus and stop at the Kenrokuen bus stop. The Seisonkaku Villa is located directly adjacent to Kenrokuen on the opposite side of the garden's main entrance.
Highlights: The Seisonkaku Villa was built in the last years of the Edo Period by a Maeda lord for his mother. It is one of the most elegant, remaining samurai villas in Japan.
One of the highlights of this house is the long covered deck that runs along the garden. The deck is unusual because the roof has no supporting pillars. It was specially made this way so that the whole garden could be enjoyed without any pillars getting in the way of the view.
Opening hours: 9am to 5pm daily, closed on Wednesday.
Admission fee: 700yen
