The Bridge on the River Kwai
.. is a historical bridge built during World War II as part of the Japanese army's railway route from Nong Pla Duk Junction Station, Ban Pong District, Ratchaburi Province to Thanbyuzayat City, Burma.
.. In some parts of the construction of this railway, a bridge had to be built across deep and rapid water.
The Japanese army chose to build the bridge across the River Kwai at Ban Tha Makham (at that time it was called Ban Tha Ma Kham), Tambon Tha Makham, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi, because the ground below was dense.
.. The first phase was a temporary wooden bridge, 100 meters away from the current bridge. It took 3 months to build, using the labor of prisoners of war and hiring Chinese workers.
