Huangfu Valley, also known as Huangshen Valley, lies east of Huashan Valley. This name comes from the story of Huang Luzi, a hermit who lived there during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Huang Luzi, whose surname was Ge and whose given name was Qi (sometimes Ge and Yue), was a native of Chu during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. He was a master of medicine and a benevolent man. Legend has it that he could treat patients without ever meeting them in person. Patients, even from thousands of miles away, simply needed to tell him their name, and they would receive a prescription that cured their illness.
Historical records describe Huang Luzi as a Taoist practitioner of breathing techniques, able to use his qi to prevent birds and beasts from flying or moving, and even to reverse the flow of rivers. Legend also states that Huang Luzi's gait resembled a galloping horse, with a multicolored cloud over ten feet high often floating above his head. During droughts, he could summon a dragon from the pond to the sky, cultivating clouds and bringing rain. Later, a woodcutter witnessed Huang Luzi soaring into the sky on a yellow dragon. The ancient cave where Huang Luzi practiced his techniques remains within the valley today.
The warm temperate continental monsoon climate makes it suitable for travel in all four seasons.
Huangfu Valley is home to numerous peaks, clear pools and streams, and lush vegetation, offering stunning scenery in all seasons. Within the valley, there once was a place called the Goddess Forest, where thousands of pine and cypress trees grew, casting deep shade over the sky. Deep within the forest stood a shrine dedicated to a solitary Goddess.
