This Western Sichuan small loop trip is totally worth it! Two days and one night exploring the secret spots of Kangding, checking in at the 4,000-meter-high Yala Pass, plus the super off-the-beaten-path Muya Monastery. Super convenient departure from Chengdu~
🚗 Itinerary:
Day 1:
Depart at 7 AM from [Du Fu Thatched Cottage Sichuan Museum Manxin Hotel] (Address: No. 29 Qinghua Road, Qingyang District), about a 4-hour self-drive to Kangding
📍 Yala Pass (arrive at 1 PM)
- Stunning viewing platform at 4,200 meters altitude, remember to bring oxygen bottles and hats as the wind is strong and can be uncomfortable
- Best photo spot: Prayer flag viewing platform, with panoramic views of snowy mountains and sea of clouds
- Tips: The pass is windy and cold, be sure to wear a windproof jacket
📍 Muya Monastery (arrive at 4 PM)
- Known as the "Little Seda," a hidden Buddhist kingdom with spectacular red buildings
- You can spin the prayer wheels for blessings
- Opening hours: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, entrance fee 30 RMB
Day 2:
📍 On the way back to Chengdu
- Stop at Zheduo Mountain viewing platform for photos
- Return to Chengdu city around 3 PM
🍴 Food recommendations:
There are no restaurants near Yala Pass, suggestions:
1. Pack some snacks before departure in Chengdu, cola, spicy strips, chips are always great
2. Kangding city has delicious Tibetan restaurants, especially recommend a place called Lao Nanmen Tibetan Restaurant located inside a residential area with great value. Also recommend [Malaya Tibetan Restaurant] for yak meat hotpot (Address: Xiangyang Street, Lucheng Town, Kangding City)
⚠️ Practical Tips:
- Altitude sickness: Drink Rhodiola a week in advance, bring oral glucose solution
- Clothing advice: Windproof jacket + light down jacket, big temperature difference
- Photography gear: Yala Pass is suitable for wide-angle lenses, Muya Monastery is better with telephoto lenses
