Completed this lesser-known but stunning Gongga small loop in three days, and today I’m focusing on the magical experience of day three~ Although the climb was a bit tiring, the moment I saw the golden sunlight on the snow-capped mountain was totally worth it!
📍Detailed itinerary
Day 3:
Set off from the guesthouse at 5 AM (remember to wear a headlamp) and hike for 2 hours to reach the Lenggaco viewing platform🌅
- Photography tips: The half hour before sunrise is the golden time to capture the golden snow mountain, recommended to use a telephoto lens
- Outfit tips: Early May mornings are around 0°C, remember to wear a windbreaker + fleece
- Special reminder: Don’t run or jump at high altitudes, prepare oxygen bottles and glucose
🏨 Accommodation recommendations:
Gongga International Youth Hostel (close to the hiking start point, beds at 150 RMB/person)
Lenggaco Boutique Tent Camp (facing the snow mountain directly, but more expensive)
🚗 Transportation advice:
1. It’s recommended to hire a car; local drivers know the road conditions well
2. The drive from Xinduqiao to Lenggaco takes 2 hours, all winding mountain roads
🍲 Must-try foods:
- Tibetan butter tea (a lifesaver for altitude sickness)
- Yak meat hotpot (old favorite: Kangding Gesar Tibetan Restaurant)
- Highland barley cakes (essential hiking snack)
💡 Practical tips:
1. Get your mountain entry permit in advance (contact the youth hostel for help)
2. Be sure to bring waterproof hiking boots! The mountain trails are muddy
3. Bring enough cash, there’s no signal in the mountains
