Let me share 6 small tips from my trip to the Maldives 2025 with everyone:
1️⃣ First, choose a reputable resort that’s been highly recommended and reviewed. I suggest the place I stayed at: Club Med Kani, Maldives, part of the Club Med group. They have a travel agency in Vietnam, which makes it easy to get information and ask questions. This is a world-famous group with 70 resorts across 5 continents. Their services are all-inclusive so you don’t have to worry about anything. Plus, the staff here are incredibly friendly and humorous — 10/10!
2️⃣ Flights: Once you’ve booked your accommodation, choose your flight, as there are many transit routes. My family chose AirAsia since it transits in Malaysia — it’s affordable and a major airline with its own terminal in Kuala Lumpur (this terminal is very large and modern, with a shopping mall featuring famous brands and budget-friendly food courts!). There are also many mini hotels inside Terminal 2 you can rent for a few hours or overnight while waiting for your transit. Flight prices were quite high during Tet (Lunar New Year), so we opted for a 12-hour transit in Malaysia and booked a room with a private bathroom. However, we didn’t realize that even though the hotel is inside the terminal, it’s above the Immigration counter, which means we had to go through temporary entry procedures and then go through exit procedures again the next morning. (For your trip, I recommend choosing a mini hotel that doesn’t require leaving the Immigration area — it’ll be more convenient.)
3️⃣ Maldives Visa: No visa required beforehand. You just need 4 documents for immigration at Maldives airport:
A valid passport
Return flight ticket
Hotel booking
Imuga declaration form (complete it online and save the QR code)
4️⃣ Transportation from airport to resort: The airport is right next to the sea! Step outside and you’re already at the pier. No need for a taxi. Each resort has a representative holding a sign to welcome guests as soon as you exit the baggage claim. There's also a small check-in kiosk inside the airport for your resort (don’t worry if you're traveling independently — it's simple and hassle-free).
5️⃣ SIM & Data: No need to buy an international SIM if you're staying at a resort — both the airport and resort offer free Wi-Fi. (Though the speed is average, not high-speed, so if you need to upload large files, consider buying a local data SIM at the Maldives airport — it offers more data than a SIM bought in Vietnam.)
6️⃣ Luggage essentials:
The weather is hotter than in Vietnam, and for great photos, you’ll want to shoot in the sunny daytime — so bring good sunscreen, colorful clothes, and sunglasses!
Bring strap-on rubber sandals for walking in water and a waterproof phone pouch for participating in water sports!
The food there is easy to eat. At Club Med Kani Resort, we had all-inclusive buffet meals 3 times a day, so I don’t think there’s any need to bring extra food — it'll just weigh you down.
