✨Ever since watching the Japanese drama "Quartet," I've known about Karuizawa, often called the "Back Garden of Tokyo." This place, 15 degrees cooler than Tokyo, exudes a healing vibe like a Japanese drama, no matter the season.
Karuizawa offers many attractions, from natural scenery to unique architecture and shopping centers. This summer, let's embark on a spontaneous trip!
🏞️ Attraction Highlights
✅ Kumoba Pond
In midsummer, the lush greenery creates a uniquely soothing atmosphere. The pond reflects a serene green hue, offering tranquility.
✅ Stone Church
Gazing at the Stone Church standing in the quiet forest feels like witnessing a masterpiece of nature. The architecture seamlessly blends stone, light, water, greenery, and trees, with its distinctive overlapping stone-and-glass arches.
✅ Kogen Church
A 5-minute walk from the Stone Church, this Western-style wedding chapel is perfect for photos when no ceremonies are held. The courtyard features towering, fragrant cinnamon trees.
✅ Harunire Terrace's Village Kitchen
A hub for dining and entertainment, we had lunch here. The beef was delicious, and the apple juice was sweet—around ¥150 per person.
✅ Shiraito Falls
If visiting by public transport, note the early bus schedule. A famous Karuizawa sight, the falls are fed by melting snow from Mount Asama, creating countless crystal-clear streams cascading down the rock face like white silk.
✅ Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza
A resort-style shopping center surrounded by nature. With around 240 brands, it's perfect for shopping or a scenic stroll.
🚗 Transportation Tips
✅ Take the Shinkansen from Tokyo Station directly to Karuizawa Station, then rent a bike for a day of cycling (attractions are spread out).
✅ Chartered car: Highly recommended for convenience, comfort, and door-to-door service.
