📍 Overview
Perched high on a hilltop west of Kathmandu, Swayambhunath Temple, also known as the Monkey Temple, is one of the most iconic and sacred sites in Nepal. The temple’s white dome and gilded spire are topped with the all-seeing eyes of Buddha, gazing calmly in every direction. From here, visitors are rewarded with panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley and the surrounding mountains 🏔️.
⸻
🌟 My Experience
• Climbing the steep stairways lined with prayer flags and mischievous monkeys was both exciting and spiritual. 🐒
• At the top, the giant stupa with the Buddha eyes felt surreal, as if the whole city is being watched over in peace.
• The 360° view of Kathmandu and the Himalayas in the distance made it even more breathtaking—perfect for photography and sunset moments 📸.
• The spiritual atmosphere is strong here, with pilgrims, monks, and locals spinning prayer wheels, creating a peaceful rhythm against the busy city below.
⸻
💰 Ticket & Value
• Entrance Fee: 200 NPR (~USD 1.50) for foreign visitors 🎟️
• Absolutely worth it for the combination of spirituality, history, and scenery.
⸻
📝 Traveler Tips
✔️ Best to visit early morning or late afternoon for clear skies and softer light.
✔️ Carry small notes for donations or local snacks.
✔️ Beware of the monkeys—they can be cheeky if you carry food! 🐒
✔️ Take time to walk around the entire stupa and spin the prayer wheels for the full experience.
