Zhongshan Square is deeply connected to Dalian's modern history. Originally designed as the central square in 1898 when Russia leased Dalian, it was called Nicholas Square at the time. During the Japanese occupation, it was renamed Taisho Square, and after liberation, it was given its current name, Zhongshan Square. The square's name reflects the flow of history and political changes over time. Today, it stands as one of Dalian's most famous tourist attractions.
