Wakamatsu, Fukuoka. Benzaiten Landing Site was an essential location in Wakamatsu, a town bustling with coal.

Benzaiten Landing Site was an essential location for people who made their living from coal mining in Dokai Bay, providing a place for embarking and disembarking ships and for loading and unloading cargo.

Its current appearance has been partially restored, with some repairs being made.

The dirt and scratches on the stone steps from the past have been left as they are, so if you look at them up close, you might be able to get a sense of the atmosphere of the thriving trade that existed back then!

Benzaiten Landing Site was recognized as a Civil Engineering Heritage Site by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers in 2019.

It is designated as part of the Wakamatsu Port Construction-Related Facilities Group and comes with an explanatory sign.

The site is also featured in the book "Kanmon 'Nostalgic' Strait: A Stop in Time, Memories of Modernization."
