On the west coast of Honshu in northern Kyushu, there is a once prosperous international trade port, that is "Moji Port". As a center for international trade with China and other places in the 19th century, Mojiko has preserved many historical buildings in Western style, bearing witness to its former prosperity.

🌺Old Moji Customs
The Old Moji Customs, built in 1912, is famous for its striking red brick walls and is one of the oldest historical buildings in Moji. It was restored from 1991 and reopened to the public in 1995. It is now used as a leisure space, with a fruit-themed cafe and an exhibition area on Japan's modern tariff and consumption tax system.

🌺Old Moji Mitsui Club
The Old Moji Mitsui Club, built in 1921, is famous for its luxurious architecture and magnificent European-style decoration. It was originally built by Mitsui & Co. to receive employees and guests. After its completion the following year, the famous physicist Einstein stayed here, so the Einstein Memorial Room was set up.

🌺Old Osaka Shosen Building
The Old Osaka Shosen Building, built in 1917, was once the Moji branch of the shipping company Osaka Shosen, and was later restored. Its magnificent octagonal tower and tiled facade make it one of Moji's landmarks. The first floor is now a communication space, showcasing the works of local artists and craftsmen.

🌺Old Dalian Route House
Built in 1929, Old Dalian Route House is an important departure/arrival terminal for routes connecting Japan and China. It has now reopened as an event facility, displaying models of famous Japanese ships and exhibitions from cities such as Dalian.

🌺Dalian Friendship Memorial Hall
The Dalian Friendship Memorial Hall was built in 1994 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of a sister city relationship between Kitakyushu City and Dalian City. It is now a multi-functional building with a Chinese restaurant and public space, displaying artworks and materials related to Dalian.

🌺Kanmon Strait Museum
Reopened in 2019 after extensive renovation, the Kanmon Strait Museum is an experiential museum that showcases the natural landscape and history of the Kanmon Strait. The museum is designed to be experiential so that visitors can immerse themselves in it.

The nostalgic illuminations of Mojiko make the night even more charming. Every winter, the historical buildings are lit up, showing a different charm from the daytime. From the Mojiko Nostalgic Observation Room, you can enjoy a 270° view of the Kanmon Strait, and the cafe on the top floor is an ideal place for a romantic date.

Kitakyushu Airport is easily accessible as it takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes to fly from Tokyo Haneda Airport. It is also possible to get there by public transportation from Fukuoka Airport. There is a parking lot available within a short walk, or you can rent a car and drive there yourself.
