The Beauty of Kokura: Mojiko Grilled Curry Experience and Mount Sarakura Night View

Take a short trip to Kitakyushu 🧳
Starting from Hakata in Fukuoka, you can reach Kokura in about an hour, making it a very convenient journey.

🚩 First stop: Mojiko (just a 15-minute JR ride from Kokura). This area preserves Western-style architecture from the Meiji and Taisho periods, exuding a strong retro vibe. A must-try local specialty is the grilled curry—curry sauce topped with plenty of cheese and baked in the oven, offering an irresistible aroma and texture.

🚩 In the afternoon, take a ferry to Shimonoseki for a half-day trip. Visit the famous Karato Market, where a variety of fresh seafood sushi and fugu (pufferfish) dishes will tantalize your taste buds. Unfortunately, visiting on a weekday means missing out on the bustling weekend stalls, which is a slight regret.

Although there was some disappointment, the charm of Kokura and its surroundings left a deep impression. Next time, I’ll make sure to visit Karato Market on a weekend to experience its lively atmosphere.

🚩 In the evening, take a cable car up Mount Sarakura. It truly lives up to its reputation as one of the "New Three Major Night Views of Japan." The breathtaking view spans from the bay to the city, with countless twinkling lights resembling a reflection of the Milky Way.
