The Urabandai Highlands consist of about 300 lakes and marshes, earning it the nickname 'Land of Lakes and Marshes.' This natural wonder, with its stunning lakes and mountains, was formed after the eruption of Mount Bandai in 1888. The autumn foliage tour centers around the southern part of Lake Hibara in the Urabandai Highlands, with the highlight being the Goshikinuma Ponds, which have been awarded one star in the Michelin Green Guide. The Goshikinuma Ponds are composed of dozens of lakes and marshes, including Akanuma, Yanaginuma, and Bentennuma. The water in these ponds is rich in minerals, causing them to display a variety of colors such as emerald green, deep blue, and dark red, depending on the time of day and sunlight. The dense maple trees along the lakeshores add to the beauty, making it a mysterious and fascinating spot for viewing autumn leaves.
