Kochi - Tosa's Hometown: A Trip to Shikoku

Kochi Prefecture is located in the southern part of Shikoku, characterized by its long and narrow terrain stretching east to west. The region boasts a rich and diverse natural landscape, including dense forests and the azure sea. Among the various local seafood delicacies, the most famous is 'Katsuo no Tataki' (also known as seared bonito), where the whole bonito fish is grilled over straw. Kochi Castle, also known as 'Hawk Castle,' served as the administrative center of the Tosa Domain during the Edo period. The castle's keep, main hall, and Otemon gate, built during the Edo period, are well-preserved and designated as a historic site in Japan, making it one of the 100 famous castles in Japan. It is a must-visit destination in Shikoku. Unlike rural areas, the vicinity of JR Kochi Station also has numerous shopping malls, making it convenient for shopping.
