Located on the banks of the Yellow River in downtown Sanmenxia, the Shanzhou Scenic Area is the largest urban garden in Henan Province, built on the ruins of the ancient Shanzhou City. Also known as the Shanzhou Old City Scenic Area and the Shanzhou Ancient City Scenic Area, Shanzhou City is an ancient city known for its ancient legend of being "surrounded by mountains on four sides and water on three sides, with half the city shrouded in mist and trees and half covered in fields." Duke Zhao, the younger brother of King Wen of Zhou, was granted the city and taught his people under the Gan Tang tree. The people, moved by his virtue, built a shrine in his memory, hence the name "Gan Tang Old Capital." The scenic area includes Shanzhou Park, the Sanmenxia Museum, the Baolun Temple Pagoda, and the Bell and Drum Tower.

Baolun Temple Pagoda
Originally a pagoda at Baolun Temple in Shanzhou City, it was built by the Tang monk Daoxiu. It was rebuilt by the monk Zhixiu in 1177 AD, making it over 800 years old. The temple has long since collapsed, but the pagoda remains. The pagoda is a 13-story, square brick tower with stepped eaves, standing 26.5 meters tall and 21.6 meters in circumference. It is constructed of blue-gray bricks stacked in a row and in a diagonal pattern. The base of the pagoda has a base and pedestal.
Sanmenxia Museum
Located north of the Baolun Temple Pagoda, this comprehensive museum was completed in November 1989. With a floor area of 3,200 square meters, its architectural style is characterized by a garden within a museum, a museum within a garden, and a sense of simplicity, solemnity, beauty, and elegance. It primarily houses historical relics and natural resource specimens unearthed in the Sanmenxia area.
