Perched on Mt. Godai at 130 meters above sea level, Makino Botanical Garden is one of Kochi’s most stunning outdoor escapes. The expansive grounds make use of the mountain’s natural curves, offering peaceful walking paths, beautifully maintained gardens, and incredible views throughout the park.

One of the highlights was the striking greenhouse tower—modern and dramatic, yet seamlessly integrated into the surrounding nature. The on-site memorial museum, dedicated to Dr. Tomitaro Makino (the “Father of Japanese Botany”), is also worth a visit—not just for its exhibits, but for its impressive architecture.
